The "Routine"

Unfortunately for my kids, each day is completely different to the one before. I usually try to keep Fridays free, a day to relax after what is usually a busy week. So this Friday past I took some photos to try and capture what a "typical" day at home is like.

Breakfast
Michaela likes to help spread the butter on her toast, but usually just ends up eating globs of it straight off the knife, always looking me straight in the eye to say "mmmmm!"

Even if I make the exact same breakfast for myself, she always wants mine. So often I'll swap. Matt always wants some too, much to Michaela's distress. But he's still having baby cereal and fruit purees. I can't wait until we can all eat the same foods together!

Matt's Nap

Matt doesn't last too long in the morning until he is ready for another sleep. Michaela usually gets to watch a little TV while I settle him.

I've tried to capture her dancing to Sesame Street here. It was The Shoe Fairy Song. Of course :-)

Snack Time
Michaela is always more receptive to eating what I choose for her if I let her help prepare it. She really enjoyed helping to peel this orange!

Arts and Craft
Not always part of the routine, but it was a cold rainy day (even though its supposed to be summer!) so I needed something to keep her occupied in the house. We made St Patrick's Day cards by pressing a potato into green paint like a stamp. I tried cutting one into a shamrock shape, but it really just looks like another blob. Who knows how long she would have enjoyed this for, probably until I ran out of paper! But then Matt woke up, time to clean up.

Hey Baby!

Michaela loves to play peek-a-boo with Matt when he wakes up. And other games too. Not quite sure what this one is!

I get to run some errands before Michaela's nap time.

Matt enjoys free-reign of Michaela's toys while she sleeps.

Dave and Michaela always enjoy a jump on the tramp when he gets home from work.
Dave is doing the kangaroo hop, in case its hard for you to tell :-)

Then its dinner, bath, and bed! Fun times! And I'm usually exhausted by the end of it. But its never the end, as Matty always gets us up through the night. And by us, I have to credit Dave with doing the loin's share as I can often sleep through most of his crying now.

Speaking of sleep, its past my bed time now... just wanted to make a start on this so hopefully I can keep it going!

  1. The dinner, bath and bedtime portions of the day are worthy of their own blog full of pictures! ;)

  2. I'm wicked impressed that you set up crafts for your kids. A potato stamp? Never would've thought of it.
